This sacrament used to be referred to as 'The Last Rites' as it was usually only administered to those who were close to death. Today it is seen as a sacrament that can be given on a number of occasions to anyone who is sick in mind, body or spirit.

Like many of the sacraments it can only be administered by a Priest as it involves the forgiveness of sins.

If you are in hospital and want to receive this sacrament you are best advised to ask the nursing staff to contact the duty Catholic Chaplain who will either organise it himself or get the duty priest to visit you.

Please note that Gloucester Royal Hospital is looked after by a team of Catholic Priests and so the duty chaplain is the one to contact.
